If you’ve been thinking of jumping into the whole natural beauty bandwagon but afraid to spend too much moolah too early in the game, you might want to check out Human Nature. Aside from the clever name (how can you forget “Human Nature”?), the affordable price point was what drew me to check out this brand. Although I’m guilty of indulging in luxury organic beauty brands, I’m still a bargain hunter at heart.
A Brand with a Heart
Human Nature is a brand from the Philippines. It is not a certified organic brand but it’s free from sulfates, toxic preservatives (parabens, phenoxyethanol, TEA, etc), petroleum, synthetic fragrances & colorants and solvents. You can read its ingredients guide here – it’s quite good and easy to digest. Human Nature is also a certified cruelty-free brand.
Human Nature believes in building sustainable business for the rural communities in the Philippines. Currently, it’s working closely with non-profit organizations to help train and educate farmers in developing world-class organic farms and other enterprises that would bring a more sustainable income to less-privileged communities.
Playtime with Human Nature’s Blush and Lipsticks
I’ve tried quite a few Human Nature products and I posted a pic of my first haul here. Unfortunately, while I was traveling, I lost some of the products! Blame it on my miserable packing skills. Anyway, just before I got back — I swear I wasn’t doing some voodoo telepathy — I received an email from Christine, Human Nature’s distributor here in Singapore. She offered to send me some newly released products from their mineral makeup range to review and host a giveaway. How’s that for perfect timing!
Perfect Glow Mineral Blush ($12.90)
The Perfect Glow Mineral blush comes in 2 shades, Pink Bloom and Sun-Kissed. The one I have is Pink Bloom — it’s a light mauve that’s perfect for work to a dinner out. The blush isn’t as pigmented but it’s build-able. I had to build the color enough for it to look visible on the photo. Like the Human Nature foundation, it’s good in controlling oil and keeping the skin matte-looking. I’m not a fan of a matte and polished look, though, so I only use this during extremely humid days.
Ingredients: mica, caprylic/capric triglyceride (coconut oil-derived), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), magnesium myristate (vegetable derived), silica, zinc oxide (CI 77947), stearic acid (vegetable-derived), polyglyceryl-3 laurate (vegetable-derived), lauroyl lysine (amino acid-derived), glyceryl caprylate (coconut oil, palm oil and glycerin-derived), magnesium stearate (vegetable-derived), tocopherol (natural vitamin E), farnesol, linalool (+/-): manganese violet (CI 77742), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492)
Although I really appreciate the travel-friendly packaging, I’d have to say that the flat brush that came with it is almost useless. The bristles keep falling off. I’ve since tossed it out and I now just use my ecotools brush with the blush — which unfortunately, isn’t travel-friendly. Ironic, right?
100% Natural Hydrating Mineral Lipstick (S$9.90)
I didn’t have high hopes for the lipsticks because the Human Nature tinted lip balms I tried a few months back didn’t really thrill me. However, the quality of the lipsticks took me by surprise! The lipsticks turned out to be nicely pigmented and very moisturizing. They keep my lips feeling soft the entire day. The lasting power is decent for a naturally-formulated lipstick, too.
Ingredients: Ricinus communis (castor) oil, beeswax, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, dicaprylyl ether (vegetable-derived), Passiflora edulis (passion fruit) seed oil, glyceryl caprylate (coconut oil, palm and glycerine-derived), tocopherol (vitamin E), fragrance (all natural) (+/-): zinc oxide (CI 774947), iron oxide (CI 77491, CI 77499), manganese violet (CI 77742), mica (CI 77019), titanium dioxide (CI 77891)
I received two shades – Lucky in Love which is slightly like brick red (warm) and Sweet Nectar which is close to salmon pink. I love both shades! I wish Human Nature would come out with a bolder ‘true red’ shade in the future.
