With my abominable eyelid eczema and dark circles, finding the right eye cream had been like a disastrous speed-dating ride so far. Each product left as fast as they landed on my shelf. Fortunately, I don’t think Kahina’s Eye Serum will be one of them.
Kahina Giving Beauty has been one of those brands hot in my radar. Luckily, Charis Naturals, the local retailer of Kahina products knocked on my inbox a few weeks ago. Michelle, the store owner, kindly offered to send me Kahina Eye Serum, one of their best sellers, to try out. She also set aside a lovely surprise for one lucky Eco Beauty.
Kahina Giving Beauty gives….
Kahina Giving Beauty is more than just one of the better known clean beauty brands. It’s also a brand that gives back. A percentage of the company’s earnings goes into a fund that support projects and initiatives that improve the lives of the Berber women – the women of Southwest Morocco who harvest and extract argan oil, Kahina’s star ingredient.
A Quick Look at the Ingredients
The Kahina Giving Beauty Eye Serum has a good mix of both raw or readily available natural ingredients (oils & extracts) and bioactive natural ingredients (peptides, etc). One of the interesting ingredients is Hexapeptide-11 which is a fermented peptide derived from yeast. I can’t find the original source but I read from most online mentions that this specific ingredient helps in boosting collagen levels in the skin.
No Irritation Whatsoever
This eye serum never irritates my eyelids and that gets a big plus right away. I feel lucky enough whenever I find an eye product that doesn’t trigger my eyelid eczema which reacts to almost anything including water (sometimes).
Light and Comfortable Texture
This eye serum has a very light consistency and it absorbs into the skin quickly. However, it packs a good punch of hydrating power. Surprisingly, it feels more hydrating and lasting on the skin than other creamier and heavier eye products I’d tried in the past.
Fuller Lashes? What?
Due to eyelid eczema breakouts during the recent months, I shed a quite a lot of eyelashes and started having “gaps”. However, I noticed that they all seem to be growing back. Interestingly, I read that hexapeptide-11, the same ingredient I mentioned above, is also found in hairloss shampoos as it seems to stimulate hair growth. Hmmm… what do you think?
Does it do anything to my dark circles?
It doesn’t really ‘erase’ my dark circles but because it hydrates well, it brightens my eye area somehow and gives the skin a bit more springiness. In my morning routine, I usually layer it on top of the Mad Hippie Eye Cream which is supposed to be more for managing dark circles.
Toss or Keep?
I think I’ll be sticking with the Kahina Eye Serum at least until I find a new prospect. But so far, after using this eye serum for about a month now, I find that generally my eye area is looking much healthier, firmer and less dry. My fine lines are still there but at least they now appear less noticeable when I’m not smiling.
Charis Naturals also kindly offered to give away a Kahina Facial Lotion (S$66) to one lucky Eco Beauty Secrets reader from Singapore. I tried a sample of this and found it to be quite suitable for my dry skin when used with a facial oil. If you’re skin is more on the oily side, this can also be a moisturizer on its own.
