Let’s go back to ancient China with this pinkish Chinese New Year look

This look was inspired by the china doll makeup of actresses in Chinese period dramas who usually sported pink eye shadows. The only thing I added were the slightly bolder lips and the thicker eyebrows. Apart from the simple pink eye makeup, the key to this look was using lots of highlighter and brightening powder. The RMS Luminizer and the Silk Naturals Dewy Sheer Finishing Silk were perfect for the job.

Products used:

Face: I applied RMS ‘Un’ cover-up all over my face, including my eye area. I used Silk Naturals “Sleep in a Jar” in Peach to cover my dark circles further.
Eyes: Baby Doll blush for the color and Vapour eye shadow for the highlights. For a more intense color, I used a slightly moist brush. I lined the outer corners of my lower lash line with Baby Doll.  I thickened my eyebrows with Sante Eyebrow Pencil 02. I lined my upper eyelids and did a little flick using Vapour Beauty Smokey Eye Tool as base and the Silk Naturals Film Noir cream liner to set the shape.
Lips: Silk Naturals Scarlet Lip Stain + Silk Naturals Bloom Gloss stick to get a more ‘pinkish’ hue because I don’t have a fushia-ish pink lipstick yet (not on the picture).
Finishing Touches: I applied the Luminizer on my cheekbones, brow bone and chin then I buffed my entire face with the SN Dewy Sheer Finishing Silk. Lastly, I curled my lashes and used Real Purity Mascara.

I feel that the RMS products might turn too oily and sticky under Singapore weather but they’ll be perfect if you’re celebrating CNY in a country with a colder and drier climate. I would have been better off using a powdered mineral foundation with more coverage and with just the right amount of dewy-ness. If you want a more defined and lasting eyeliner, please go for a liquid liner instead. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried a more natural liquid or gel liner yet. Zuzu Luxe, why aren’t you available in Singapore?

Hope you enjoyed my first makeup pseudo-tutorial. I’ve been hoarding lots of makeup recently so I can do more of these. I’m addicted!

To all my readers who are celebrating, Happy Lunar New Year!

      Thank you :)
Silk Naturals products are very affordable — so it’s a good brand to experiment with if you’re new to mineral makeup but want quality products. That’s why I mention it a lot :)

      Happy CNY to you, too!

Love your look! Pink looks quite flattering on you :) I wore pink in the past but looked I was being punched in the eyes. BTW, do you tightline your upper lashes? Can’t tell in your photo.

I just bought a Nvey eyeshadow palette. Still couldn’t get myself used to using mineral makeup. The powder form makes it difficult for application. So I’m splurging my money for time :P

Thanks! <3 I think the key to this look is to keep the pink shade really under control or in small areas of the eyes only. It’s the same with smokey eyes. :)

I didn’t tightline my upper lashes in this tutorial because I’m afraid of using anything too near my eyes, haha. But I’ll probably try that next time.

I wanted to buy Nvey eyeshadows but couldn’t find them at Sephora anymore :( The powder form is not that difficult to apply but it sure is messy!

thank you! It’s because I used a cream foundation-concealer + cream highlighter. But unfortunately, I don’t think they’re suitable under Singapore weather.
