So you indulged during the holidays? Here’s a detox tea recipe for you!

So how was your holiday break? Mine was filled with food. Lots of food. Most of them were junk food. If like me, part of your new year’s resolution is to lose what all that binging had left behind, here’s a fiber-filled power detox drink to jump start your 2013 tummy cleanse!

This drink called “The Fiber Flush Green Tea” is courtesy of My from My Healthy Dish. I used to do something similar although instead of green tea, I only used plain lemon + honey juice with chia and ginger. I loved the addition of cayenne pepper which you can find in lots of other detox diet recipes and drinks — but because I didn’t have it, I used a teaspoon of my green smoothie powder instead.

Ingredients:

A tbsp. of Chia Seeds
2 cups hot water
1 green tea bag
1 slice lemon
1 tsp. of sliced ginger
1 tsp. of honey
a dash of cayenne pepper

If you haven’t heard of chia seeds before, it’s time you do! These tiny black beads are packed with omega 3 and anti-oxidants. They’re also high in fiber (and that means a ‘smooth’ exit to whatever is stuck in your tummy!). Once mixed with water, they turn jelly-like which makes them look scary. But don’t worry because chia seeds have a very subtle, almost non-existent taste.

My suggests drinking 3 cups of this in a day or if you want to take it daily, just one cup a day. It’s supposed to help with bloatedness and indigestion. A personal tip from me, though, is to make sure that the nearest toilet won’t require you to sprint because this baby can sure stir a storm!

So seriously now, how was your holiday?

      You’re missing a lot! :D
Chia Seeds are great for drinks — smoothies, juices, teas, etc. They add an incredible amount of fiber and a bit of crunch. :)

Hi Lynn, only thing I know is “Terima Kasi” but I’m not sure whether that’s Malay or Bahasa Indonesia. :p

But I think I have heard ‘selasih’ before. ..

      • Lynn says:

Terima Kasih is both Malay and Indonesian language:D Actually malay ethnicity by history was from what current day is part of Indonesia territory,Sumatra Island. Short story, the territory was divided by British and Dutch colonialism. The language of ethnic malay here was the language of business back then(before our independence day) so that the Indonesian government decided to make it our official language despite the fact that actually the largest ethnicity(by population)is javanese. So,..that’s a brief history of Terima Kasih :)

As for selasih,it’s called Biji Selasih here which means Selasih seeds. I’m pretty sure they look similar, however the latin name are different. Confusing.. :/

Oh I loove chia seeds! i never used it in tea but I will try!

I love ginger too! boosted with antioxidants and vitamins ^,^. I grate about 2-3 table spoons of ginger in my green tea everyday :) )

Do you slice the ginger or grate it? It,s much better and much more effective if you grate the ginger. The juices and essential oils is coming out much better when grated ^,^ (you can use the side on the grater who is for the “parmesan cheese) :) )

    • Vivi says:

I slice the ginger when I’m lazy but I grate it when I have time. Sometimes, the taste can be a bit too strong for me when it’s grated. But I grate the ginger when I use it to marinate my food.

Here’s a funny recipe that I discovered in one of the Chinese tea shops here in Singapore— boiling ginger with diet coke :p I tried it and it wasn’t bad. But I don’t drink coke so I only take it once a year.
