Guest Review: Kelly Edwards Cleanser – Is it really for all skin types?

I was gifted Kelly Edwards skin care samples earlier this year by Vivi from Eco Beauty Secrets and after trying the products on and off for the past 6 months, I would like to share my thoughts with you first on the Kelly Edwards Cleanser. It’s supposed to be suitable for ‘all skin types’. This made me wonder whether this cream cleanser would work as well for my skin which is acne and oil prone.

On the Kelly Edwards website, it describes the Cleanser as ‘gentle yet effective creamy textured cleanser swiftly and effectively removes every day impurities and make up without drying the skin. Formulated with Rice Bran, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, it leaves the skin feeling clean and soft and may also be taken around the eye area to remove stubborn mascara’.

Left my Skin Soft and Clean
My experience with the cleanser is not far off from what has been described by the brand itself. I used the cleanser in the mornings to wash off the previous night’s potions and prep the face for the morning routine of toner, serum and sunscreen application. The cleanser has a soft cream texture which is easy to spread on the skin without the need to use water. The cleansing process is simple, I massage the cream with dry hands all over my face for about a minute and then rinse it off with warm water. The cleanser does not leave residue of any sorts on the skin after washing so the result is soft and clean skin! I did not try to use the cleanser as a make-up remover so I cannot vouch for the claim that it is able to remove stubborn mascara, which I do not wear anyway. But I don’t think it’s for me…
Personally, I would not purchase this cleanser due to my skin type – oily, acne and inflammation prone – which means that I prefer using a foam cleanser that is able to get rid of facial sebum and soothe inflammation which I find lacking in this cleanser. While it does not irritate my skin, neither does it calm down the redness caused by acne inflammation which is one of my primary skin concerns. On some days when my skin gets really red, irritated and breaks out non-stop, I skip using this cleanser and return to my regular foam cleanser. If Kelly Edwards has a cleanser that is targeted more towards my skin type, I would be game to try it because I like the fact that the brand uses botanical ingredients. But as far as I can see from the brand website, it only carries this cream cleanser.

I think this cleanser will work better for normal, combination to dry skin types. If you’re a fan of organic cream cleansers and are looking for something gentle yet effective, it definitely does what it promises. But sadly, it’s just not for me.

The Kelly Edwards Cleanser 100ml retails for £11.50 on the Kelly Edwards online shop. It’s also available in 15ml and 200ml sizes.

Doreen, a reader of Eco Beauty Secrets, has kindly offered to help me do reviews of some Kelly Edwards products which I won from Vivawoman’s giveaway a couple of months ago. Here’s the first post in her review series. Thanks, Doreen!
